I typically wear a size 8 1/2 in ladies dress shoes and a size 9 in boots (to allow room for a thick winter sock) and I received these in a size 9 1/2 and they are a perfect fit with a thin sock. There is no way I could make room for a thick wool or padded sock in here, so I am inclined to say that these run a full size small. The boot is also surprisingly narrow! I like to buy a narrow shoe when I can, and these are snug on the sides of my feet and all the way around the heel. I would never recommend this shoe to someone who wears a wide size.The heel is 3" tall on the outside back of the shoe and 2" tall underneath the shoe. There is no platform whatsoever. The description says that this boot has a 1" platform and that is factually inaccurate. I find these comfortable to walk in as the heel is both wide and thick, offering sufficient support to my heels.The interior of the sole has very little padding and I will likely add an insert as this shoe has zero arch support. If you typically wear a nice thick insert in your boots I would actually recommend going up another half size. In my case, going from an 8 1/2 to a 9 1/2 there is only room for a very thin insert. If I had gotten these in a 10 I would have room for my UGG inserts, which I love!The look of these is really cute and super stylish. I love how they dip in front, creating a longer and leaner looking leg. I also love the truly pointy toe which also flatters the look of the leg. The leather is pretty and nicely finished with a light and smooth sheen to it, without being too "shiny."My calves have plenty of room in this boot, they measure 14" in diameter at their widest point and there looks to be about another 1 1/2" of room in the boot, so anyone with a 15" or even a 15 1/2" calf should find these workable. I do think that the lining on this leather would allow the leather to stretch a little if that is needed.
